We had a custom solution built for our museum. From a back-end standpoint
it is clunky and unwieldy. But the public facing side is working pretty
well and our visitors are using it.

Another solution I recently came across was Visix. They might be able to
custom build something for you to work with your situation. I haven't
personally worked with them, but from what I saw of their product at
Infocomm it seems pretty robust.
