Hi Jessica,
I can give some detail on a couple of projects that I have been directly
or indirectly involved in:
The Mechanical Curator <https://mechanicalcurator.tumblr.com/>: A
project by the British Library Digital Labs, using a software bot to
identify, tag and upload images from scanned 19th century books to a
Tumblr account, for public domain use. In fact, the British Library Labs
is a fantastic example of opening up digital collections for creative
use: look at the collaboration with David Normal as an exemplar.
Museum In A Box <http://museuminabox.org>: George and her team at MIAB
use museum collections (either 3D-printed replicas of objects or
2D-printed postcards with imagery) to create mixed-reality educational
tools for schoolchildren and adults alike. Often they are commissioned,
but recently have been working more with public domain image collections.
The Museum Collections (particularly the British Museum's) on Sketchfab
<http://sketchfab.com> are an interesting evolution of online digitised
collections: high-resolution scans of 3D objects to create high-poly 3D
models that are often free (both in £ and rights) to download and use.
Best,
Rob

Hi, everyone.
I'm looking for some use cases for museum digital collections. We're embarking
on some user research and want to see what else has been done.
Thanks!
Jessica
