heya pupu,

On Saturday, July 17, 1999, 5:28:54 AM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] whipped this up:

p> Sure I like my
p> MiniDisc, but I never buy a pre-recorded disc when I can buy a better
p> copy on CD and just record it to MD (with, more than likely, a better
p> result).

hmmmm... theoretically, the quality on a pre-rec *CAN* be better than
the one you get on the cd (higher S/N-ratio,...) or the one you get
through self-made "real-time" ATRACcing, as the encoding process on a
pre-rec has access to:
- the original mastering data, which probably has a higher quality
(maybe 24bits@96khz or whatever they use...)
- more time (can do better encoding, no need to do it in realtime)...

but i've never bought a pre-rec, either; so i can't tell and don't
even hear a difference between my CDs and recorded MDs. :)

bye,
