The point is that the manufacturers are only going to make the chips just
fast enough to do the job at hand.  Why go to the extra expense of producing
a DSP that has 4 times the required performance?  Ahh, you say, so that
pitch control can be made to play at faster speeds.  My view is that that's
a lot of expense to implement what is essentially a novelty feature.  If PC
processors are any kind of indication a doubling of performance demands over
10 times the cost, so to implement 300% (4x) speed increase ability would
push the DSP cost to over 100 times what it currently is.
