My best guess is the cable has been damaged-- if it's anything like the
TOSlink->TOSlink cable that came with my fathers JE520, it would be
easily damaged (my TOSlink-> mini-TOSlink I bought from the local Sony
centre is about 3mm thick and therefore has plenty of protection, the lead
with his unit was about 1mm thick).
