MD systems have achieved a 20 percent diffusion ratio (to some 60
million households), and have
gained acceptance as a new audio recording media. From total worldwide
demand of 17 million
discs in 1995, the MD market soared more than sevenfold to 125 million
in 1998. TDK's is meeting
the increased demand with monthly production of 4.7 million discs
(Chikumagawa Factory, 4
million; Europe, 0.7 million).
