Yep, that is because of the way the analog recordings work, when you
change the tempo, you also change the pitch. Hence, some poeple get
confused and think they are the same. They aren't the same and on a
digital recording, they can be separated and change independently, just
as they can with a real live band.
A live band will play a tune in D and can play it either fast or slow
tempo. They can also play it in a higher pitch, say for instance G, and
play it at a fost or a slow tempo.
So, now you understand the differnce. I hope I didn't get you miffed
while trying to explain it.
