There shouldn't be any acoustically transferred noises on your recordings
unless you had microphones placed very close to the recorder.  Portables
exhibit poorer s/n ratios and you can't really expect to get the same
results as component decks give with analogue recording.

Due to their small size and high component density, portables couple more
servo and logic noise to the audio than do decks.  You could investigate the
possibility of using a portable outboard ADC, and bypass the analogue stages
in the recorder all together.
