I recently fitted an AOpen DVD-ROM drive to my PC (DVD-9624) and have been
ripping CD audio using this drive and a freeware program called CDCOPY by
Markus Barth. I can highly recommend both for anyone wanting to do a LOT of
ripping and MP3ing.

This combination rips at up to 18x speed, and never less than about 12x with
perfect accuracy. The program is very easy to use and quite flexible. It
is able to rip and compress either on a track by track basis, or rip all
then compress all, or even compress while ripping where disk space is
limited. It is fully configurable to use variables such as CD ID, track
number, track time, CDDB info etc. to name the resultant files, meaning that
a large WAV or MP3 collection can be built up with meaningful and unique
file names, and ID3 tags can be automatically added where CDDB info is
available.

It can also be configured to call external codecs if one has a favourite
MP3/VQF/whatever coder.
