I got into MD a short time ago and appreciate all of the things that I'm
learning from the postings here. I live in the US and I'm amazed at how
poorly MD is promoted here; advertising and in-store stock of MD items is
practically non-existent. On-line ordering is better; Camera World of
Oregon and Minidisco seem to be the places with the best prices. I actually
learned about MD from corresponding with a guy in Australia, who talked me
into trying it. I'm certainly glad I listened to him, I've been having a
great time with it.
I've been trying to decide whether I want to get into trying to defeat SCMS
or to just go with making the best analog copies I can when I want to copy
something from one MD to another. My main use of MD is to make compilations
and to get new listening experiences through trades. I have some questions
for the experts on this list about making analog copies:
Do I need a second deck, or are there portables that have an RCA-type "line
out" jack suitable for recording purposes? I'm assuming that copying
through a headphone jack would produce poor quality sound.
What has been your experience with the sound quality of copies made this
way?
Do you have any suggestions about how to go about making MD to MD analog
copies to get the best results in terms of sound quality?
I apologize if any of this is "newbie" stuff, but, after all, I am a
newbie...
Thank you.
