Hi guys,

I've just spent the afternoon transferring a CC backup of an ex-work
colleagues' CD onto MD, obviously via an analog connection and must
confess I was pleasantly suprised by the quality of the music on the CC
recorded some 4 years ago. I know, I should hide in a dark corner for
admitting such an almost unforgiveable thing here, but it did sound fine.

Perhaps I was unfair when I slated CC with Dolby S as being c**p when
compared to MD. All my audio components fall into the semi-cheap
(aka Richer Sounds type) sector, though I felt it a good move to spend
most on the CC deck-- I hadn't even heard of MD then :-( The CC deck
is now some 5-6 years old but sounds good as new.

I don't know if it's a pile of s**t, the Denon DRM-800A which set me back
UKP200 (bought as a "last years model sell-off" originally 300pounds). If
any of you know anything about that CC deck please let me know. The
hifi magazines seemed to think it was pretty good, but these days I read
how they prefer the sound of certain brands of MD and realise their
reviewers actually have s**t for brains.

I listened to the Dolby B recording on the Type-II / Chrome tape and apart
from just slightly audible hiss between tracks it sounded great. I made the
recording at optimum level settings according to the Denon CC's 16-bar
meter which I still use in conjunction with my R3's puny seven bar level
meter when doing other analog stuff onto MD. I have to admit that optimum
level CC recordings can be pretty good (but not equal to MD of course).

They say confession is good for the soul, well admitting on md-l that a
tape recording you made sounds great must really mean my soul is in
great shape now :-P

In case you were wondering what I was recording [Gaz cringes as he types
this] it was an "Adam and the Ants" CD->tape copy. Can I hide as all you
guys laugh at me please?

Cheers,
PrinceGaz -- "apologies for my increased tendency lately to use *'d swear
words. I know it's neither big nor clever but sometimes I get over-excited.
I guess it's better than typing them in full?"
