Many thanks to all who helped with my Sony MZ-E40 question. Now I read in the manual (duh), it does cover this noise that the unit makes: "Note on Mechanical Noise:" "The player gives out mechanical noise while operating, which is caused by the power-saving system of the player and is not a trouble". So the player is working just fine..... ******************************************* Was in the Sony Outlet store in Kenosha,WI late last week..and I see that they have (or maybe had by now ??) a couple of high end MD decks (ES series) at pretty good prices. These are brand new and not used/returns units. MDS-JA20ES for $ 399.95 MDS-JA3ES for $ 499.95 Who knows why ? I picked up a JA20ES and it is a VERY nice unit. Indeed "Brand New".factory sealed carton. At that time they had a good 10 in stock. Not sure if other Sony outlet stores in the US have these same prices/decks ..I cannot tell you ?? Maybe these models are on the way out ?? Either way..some excellent buys. At least if they are still on sale..could not tell if this was for the week-weekend sale.. etc...did not ask ?? I picked up that MZ-E40 player for (re-furb) for $ 69.95 at that same store.Came with a brand new pair of very minor headphones and the case.
