It is right in what it says. The shock protection is full (10 sec)
when your running of AC or no auto power save. That's because the
MiniDisc is spinning all the time.
When power save is on, the MiniDisc reads till the buffer is full,
then stops, plays out of memory for ~5 seconds then spins the disk up
and starts reading. The buffer fills up again, etc, etc. So the least
amount of memory in theory that will be full is 5 seconds.

Hmmm, never heard that before. What page in your manual? It's not in
MD format if it won't. I'd check but I don't have another unit. If you
can confirm this I'll put it on my Sharp 701/702 web page.
