David Sice asked,
| Does anyone know whether there is a way to 'overwrite' an existing minidisc
| track so that the original track numbering is maintained?
You didn't say which recorder you're using. Overwriting is designed to
emulate linear media like audiotape, and the troubleshooting guides in Sony
MD recorder manuals talk about a whole bunch of problems it can lead to:
difficulty editing afterward, inordinate loss of available space, inability
to title during recording, for some off the top of my head.
| I want to be able to 'replace' one item for another and not disrupt the
| numbering or audio material recorded on any of the other tracks.
Best bet is to record the replacement in open space and then resequence the
new track to the numerical position of the one it is replacing. Don't be
concerned that the physical sequence of the tracks will not match the
numeric sequence any longer: that's what the TOC's pointers and the read-
ahead buffer are for.
| Does anyone have any ideas on this, or suggestions as to how I might be able
| to achieve the result.
Record in open space, delete the old material, and renumber the new track.
(Or delete, record, renumber; or record, renumber, delete.)
| Maybe I am doing something wrong?
No, it's not you. It's the overwrite function; it just performs poorly.
The Aiwa AM-F70 doesn't even implement overwriting.
