Can anyone tell me if the Sony NH14WM (nickel metal hydride) gumstick
battery can be safely recharged in the same charger as the one which was
supplied for the NH9WM which came with my E30? My charger says "Charge
only NH9WM and NC6". However, it's quite an old unit and I'm wondering if
it doesn't mention the NH14WM simply because that battery hadn't come out
when it was produced (I'm assuming the 14 is newer than the 9)? I am
thinking of getting some 14s but I want to check that I don't need a new
charger as well.

As regards the Sony "gumpack batteries", I ran my cassette Walkman
(WM-FX503) on these batteries and asked a sales assistant at a Sony
specialist about what was available for these batteries, knowing that I am
using one of the older (1994 vintage) three-gumpack "wall-wart" chargers
which I bought when I had my previous Walkman -- the Sony WM-GX51B
radio-cassette-corder which had worn out after five years and many
mass-transit journeys of heavy use. He showed me the Ni-MH gumpacks and
talked of them being a long-run battery for the existing Walkman, especially
when listening to tapes privately on long car journeys. He said that these
Ni-MH batteries can he charged on my existing Ni-Cd charger.

With regards,

Simon Mackay
