I just checked, and I actually did buy an extended warranty on my
R50 through February of 2000. I normally stay away from those
extended warranty *scams* like the plague, but I felt it was worth it
for a relatively fragile piece of portable electronics.

That having been said, my R50 has been dropped three times now (from
any significant height). Once, it was dropped face down (!) onto a
concrete floor from about waist level! It has, thankfully, yet to
slip even a bit. A co-worker dropped his R30 once and it had to go
through three repair sessions.

I use my R50 a LOT in situations it probably wasn't meant for (field
news gathering for radio) and the warranty was a small consideration
cost-wise with that in mind.

His message was in English? ;)
