Hello to all

I read on the past digest something about binaural mics, since the
subject was mentioned I would like to share my last experience with my
last concert recording.

First, I use my R50 and a Sony ECM 717 mic, thats it (Im an amateur not
a pro in this hobby)

2 weeks ago, I recorded this "goth" gig here in Mexico City, the venue
was the "circo volador" wich actually is a large old movie theater; on
the lower part the seats were removed, the upper part, the seats were
still there, in short words half had seats, half no seats, general
admitance.
Kindly my brother in law went with me (my wife didnt wanted to go "too
spooky" for her, I can go to any gig, no problem with me, Im not a goth
look alike, Im the regular dockers, long sleeve shirt big guy.) And
hell it was spooky!!!! all the audience was dressed in black like
vampires and also had their faces painted with white makeup, eyeliner,
and black lipstick, yikes!!! very ugly people!!
We sneaked the recording gear this way:
Me, the R50 tucked in front of my........... you can imagine
My brother in law, the mic tucked in front of his.............imagine
too ;-)
2 discs hidded inside my mountain climbing style boots, and one disc
inside the unit.

We passed thru security with no problems, they inspected me from head to
toe, everything !!! including my wallet!! they do this because te
concert was going to be heavy, so they look basically for drugs,
bottles, weapons, etc.......but search for a MD unit? they even dont
know what a MD is. It could have easily passed by telling them that was
my cellphone or some new model of Palm V, really!!!, but I didnt wanted
to take the chance and sneaked the unit the usual way.

We went to the restroom to take out the gear and wire me up, then we
went to a startegical point, so that the recording could be good,
secuirty inside was minimal.
This was on the left side like 10 meters away from the stage.

4 groups played (we missed the first one, no big deal)

The recording: Silde the rec button, then the hold switch and stood
still all the gig, I was miming clapping and shouting, even whistling
pretty good for me since im not a mime :-) there was not too much
people around us, I was lucky not to have the usual drunk guy shouting
near me. The mic sens was set to low, setting it to high will ruin the
recording, also, I didnt touched the rec level, I just leaved that
way, I know this becuase I previously done some tests at home.

So, I recorded 3 groups=3 MDs

At home I checked the recording and boy it was great!!! all the
instruments sound clear, the voice sounds clear, guitar sounds perfect,
not mufflled or distorted, the bass was not too heavy neither the bass
drum wich is one of the main spoilers when you record live . pum, pum
pum!

Im very happy with my recording job :-)

Eduardo form Mexico City

Ohhhh I almost forgot!! you would like to know what I recorded:
Catastrophe Ballet, Dreams of Sanity, and ChristianDeath
