I thouhgt the same thing when I got my 510. Then I found other things I
wanted to record and it was awkward to carry the deck, and besides, if I
wanted to use a mike with the 510 I had to bring along mixer to use as
a preamp and a full size mike. After toting that bundle a few times, I
got a portable too and now use both.
As david pointed out, you will lose some time every 74 minutes. You
might consider recording it in mono mode instead of stereo and you will
get 144 minutes. It may or may not make a difference to you. try it
first and see. Also, if you are cahnging the disk every 74 minutes,
yoiu will have to set the alarm 5 minutes before so you are awake enough
to make the change. It will take you ten minutes to got back to sleep,
so you will be very tired the next day.
I have heard of people using a VCR to tape audio off the radio. I don't
know how well that works though with a 6 hour tape.
