Hya All, Thought I'd share something with you... We have a reasonable music library here where I live. Borrow CD's etc..... I found a CD that I really liked, so I wanted to "back it up" onto a MD (of course I would have handed the MD in with the CD <Insert Very Evil Grin>). But sod's law, there was a great big scratch through several of the tracks I loved. It made them jump and skip. So I had a crazy idea to repair the CD. How? Read on... First of all I used T-Cut (car paint restoring stuff, basically rubs away the paint) to restore the top layer. As you can imagine it looked pretty bad after that stage. I applied it with on of those cotton pad things that women use of there face (and in fact so do some men ;). I tried to play it and it was awful, worse then before. The CD skipping and jumping (getting more of a work out then I do ;) Sorry that was bad ;). So I thought well maybe T-Cut is to abrasive, so I used Braso (Brass cleaning stuff). Making circular patterns, I did this for a while. While doing it kept washing it and looking for scratches. After a while I got it so that you couldn't see the original scratch, it looked alright, but slightly cloudy. So I played it an it jumped some more. ;) (Nearly there), so then using the Braso again I circled in very light circular patterns around the CD. After doing this for a while it looked as good as new. I popped it into the CD player, and it worked perfectly, I had managed to restore the surface to a degree where our CD player could read it perfectly. (Mandatory MD content) I then tried to copy it optically to my Sharp 722, and it worked perfectly, sounded great. Remember, don't do the side with the title on it! Disclaimer, a) I don't encourage you to do this, it is a last resort method and b) I don't condone copying CD's from a music library.
