My need for optical leads follows this weeks (hesitant) purchase of a
SBLive!Platinum combo with it's Live!DriveII box of sockets. It came with a
2M Toslink to 3.5mm lead (which I already had, a shorter one came with the
MZ-R55) but I needed a Toslink-Toslink lead to connect my MDS-JE520 deck
to the computer. That way I can record radio from my tuner to hard disk via
the mixer and MD deck.
I noticed that if I simply poked the 3.5 end of the optical cable at the
Toslink socket the sound burst through loud and clear. Since this was
indeed a spare lead I tackled it with some fine sandpaper until the leading
edge of the plug was thin enough to poke into the Toslink socket and stay
there unaided. A result!!
OK, I need another lead so that I have bi-directional capability between
deck and pc but I've saved the price of a few disks!
For the record, the SBLive!Platinum is excellent, and surprise, surprise,
installed into NT4 (SP5, dual PII) first time and works fully as expected.
Given all the hassle I had with previous AWE32 and 64 cards with NT4 I was
mildly astonished.
All I need now is a software recorder that can be started by the task
scheduler and go straight into record mode. Anyone know how I can do this?
Waiting up to record the Essential Selection at 2:00am brings me into
conflict with the trouble and strife :(
