I'm sure Sony will do better....
What we are seeing here is the start of disc based video recording and the
ultimate end (hooray!) of tape as the storage medium.
It will probably take a while but I am sure this is the way of the
future...

FWIW, my Sony DV cam has already destroyed two tapes and had the transport
replaced, after just 8 mths of home use and I am not he only one - there
seems to be a trend developing with this model (TRV900).

The sooner we get away from tape, the better IMHO.

As much as I love the (audio) MD format, I'm not so sure that I would go
with Sony's discam MD format - there are designs being developed that use
DVD standards that may be more practical and compatible with DVD players
(although they may also be larger?)
