There is, called CD-Text - however it's not too well supported, either with
recorders or players.

(Unfortunately, your Iomega drive isn't amongst them)
It's gaining popularity with bookshelf systems and in-car players, but to be
honest it probably isn't worth the change of hardware to add a feature only
about 10% (being generous) of players can use.
