There are several USB options - if your laptop has a USB port.
There is the sonicport optical, which retails for au$899 (sorry - don't know
$us), or the Roland UA-100, about au$799. I don't really know the specs,
although the roland has a series of effects which allow you to use the box
separately as an effects box, it uses the Virtual Soundcanvas MIDI synth.
The Roland runs on an external power supply, I don't know about the
Sonicport. Roland has released a smaller version without the effects, but i
don't know anything about it - it mightn't have an optical out.
I know that those two have optical outputs, there may be more i don't know
of.
