Hey
I'm relatively new to the world of MD, having just bought an R90 and 30 sony
"prism" series discs (10MDW-74HP). To date, I have recorded on 10 of these
discs, and so far two of them have started to give brief dropouts at certain
points on the disc. These were all virgin recordings done on the R90, and
until now the recordings played back perfectly, without dropouts.

None of the discs have been exposed to strong magnetic fields, or anything
that could be potentially damaging.

Are dropouts a risk of using MD that you just accept and try to live with,
or are they not meant to happen at all, possibly indicating a bad batch of
discs? Are there any other factors that could cause this? I would have
thought a digital disc-based medium would hold data for years, even with
repeated use. Has anyone else experienced this while using Sony discs?

thanks, Nick
