When I went into one of the BMW dealerships, they had a very-low end Sony
MD headunit (can't remember the model number, but it seemed a couple of
rungs down from the 5970) offered as one of their in-car entertainment
packages.

For the money (over 350UKP), it was a total ripoff. If it's a private
purchase, just delete any stereo option and spend the saving on getting a
decent install from somewhere else. If it's a company car, you may well be
stuck with a portable and a tape adaptor.
