As an owner of an MZ-R50 I agree with everything he says.

The track mark button on the remote only works when recording. During
playback, you have to mark tracks with the T-mark button underneath the hold
switch on the R-50.

Any sounds your computer makes (music, a "click" sound when you click the
mouse, dings and chimes when an error occurs, "You've got mail!" etc.) will
be heard on your computer's audio output as well as on the speakers, and get
recorded on the minidisc. You could disable all your system sounds, but
it's
probably easier to just make sure you don't make any other noise while
recording mp3s. :)

a computer. Is this normal?

Yes. Essentially, a MiniDisc *is* a floppy in a computer, just a very
specialized one...

Don't know about this one. You might try tightening up the two tiny screws
on the left side of the door, above the in/output connectors. Otherwise,
unless it gets really loose, I wouldn't worry about it. (Other
opinions?...)

On a more personal note, assuming that "bsu" in your e-mail address means
Ball State University, where is the nearest Sony outlet store?? I am also
in
central Indiana (I work in Muncie, in fact) and was not aware there were any
Sony outlets near here.

Glad you like your R-50. I've had mine for just over a year now and it's a
great little machine.
