Andrew,

Pick up one of the Sharp MD-R2 decks from Minidisco for $159. You will be
amazed at how much it will improve your minidisc experience and it does
great digital transfers in both directions. I have 2 702's, but now only use
them for recording with mikes. Everything else (including listening to
minidiscs) is done on the deck. The ADC/DAC on the deck seems better too.
