I haven't used the JVC XMR70 a lot however these are my observations. The
JVC XMR70 does not allow you to adjust the record level with the mic. I
don't see a mic sensitivity button like the Sony's. You can only adjust the
record level with the analog input only. Apparently it goes up to level 24.
By using the "forward/reverse" buttons, you can easily adjust the record
level for the analog input.
For the price of $225 (can be found at www.ubid.com), it's not a bad unit.
The positives of the unit are:
+nice and durable metal jog dial
+reasonably priced
+clear LCD on unit (not backlit though)
+adequate battery life (lithium ion battery)
+easy to use remote
+can title during playback
Negatives
+weak clamshell (relative to the Sony MZ-R90 and Sharp MT-831)
+buttons such as pause/play, stop, forward and reverse way too small
+can't adjust bass without remote
+only one bass setting (not including off)
+can't adjust certain play modes w/o remote
Hope this info is useful.

Robert

isn't so expensive.....any happy owners over there? >>
