There will be a small silent gap when going between LOW and HIGH
sensitivity when adjusting the Mic level during recording. This happens on
the 722, so I would think it's the same on the 701/2. It states this in the
manual, so it's definitely a "feature" they have. It shouldn't really cause
any problems for the majority of recordings.
Personally, I've not been too impressed with the build quality of some Sony
gear of late. As for Aiwa, a friend of mine went through 2 units (can't
remember which model), where the jogwheels both broke very quickly. In the
end, he got the next model up which seems to be fine. My Sharp is cool, and
although looking damn ugly (722), I think it's one of the best value units
around. Plus, it has the slot loading mechanism, rather than the clamshell,
which in my opinion is far more robust.
Chrz,
Wrighty
