Howdy all,
I have a couple things to say about the rio exp, the usb stuff and other
things. Fist off i have a rio also, I got it for free, it never get's used,
and it totally bites, i've heard descent portable tape recorders that sound
better than all the portable mp3 solutions out there right now. As for the
x-fer, the regular rio(which is $99 right now) it takes about 1/4 the song
time for 128 kb so if it's a 4 min song it takes it about a minute to
transfer over from the small amount of experience i had with it. With
today's md/cd players that can dub a song is 2x and i believe sony has a 4x
one coming out this should not matter. Next as for MD vs MP3 yes they are
formats that are going against each other, but you have to remember 1 thing
about MD, most of the people who have gotten into MD before recently have
done so because of the sound quality, including myself. So to compare the
two formats with history is kinda silly because i'd say before mid 1999 the
two were worlds apart. Another thing putting a usb port on either a
portable or a standalone recorders IMO is a little overkill (but would help
the market) I believe this again because most of the people who get into MD
do it because of sound quality, I personally only copy mp3's to MD when it
is something that was impossible for me to find anywhere, and that's the
only format i can get it in. However with putting a usb port on them you
will be tapping into a market of all the kids out there that want lots of
music stored but dont wanna buy the expensive solid state memory. this i
believe would help the market for MD. About advertising, since Jan 1, i've
personally seen more MD commercials than i have ever seen before combined on
tv, and a new one last night. My personal fav is the guy who builds a half
pipe in his apt and then smashes into the cealing. but the newest one by
sony I believe will get a lot of peoples attention. It had a laptop sitting
on a desk with some kinda adaptor for a plugin for a toalink to miniplug,
then it was plugged into an r55. it was playing some chick song and a guy
walks into the apt. he yell's at the roomate who is taking a shower "what
are you listening to" or something to that, the guy in the shower looks out
an yells back "i'm making a mix for my gf", then the other dude says "well
you dont have a gf" anyway it was humerous and is nice to see sony pushing
MD rather hard over the tv latly.
Later
Matt
PS sorry about the babbling
