Hello all,

I'm attempting to record mp3's from my computer to my minidisc via TOSLINK,
but the sound coming through has excessive noise. I do not experience this
excessive line noise during analog recording, nor when simply listening
through my desktop speakers.

Computer specs:
Win 98
Celeron 500MHz
256MB RAM

Xitel Platinum

Adaptec 2940 PCI
Netgear 100/10 NIC PCI
Creative TNT2 AGP

Minidisc specs:
Sharp 722

I've tried a number of things, but have yet to come up with a solution:

1. lowered the digital out volume and wave out volume within sound control
panel, but no effect on noise level.

2. recorded mp3 at various bitrates, 128, 160, 192, but no effect

3. swapped sound card with *another* new Xitel Platinum, but same line noise

4. swapped stock TOSLINK cable with a Sony (POC-15AB) unit, but no effect

5. moved the sound card from one PCI slot to another, but no effect

6. swapped Sharp 722 unit with new one, but no change

Anyone have solutions I can try? Similar experiences?

Thanks for listening,

Uber
