I have heard of those doohickeys where you turn
your radio to a dead station (e.g. 88.x) and connect it to your MD
player. Do these work well? If so, all the time or just in certain
conditions (e.g. a sunny day, or in the country)? Does anybody know how
much they run for?

There are two types of "FM" modulators that I am aware of on the
US market.

The "inexpensive" type retails for around $30.
It "broadcasts" to the antenna (aka its "wireless").

This type is kinda neat, except it does not work -
at least not for me. each bump causes the selection
station to "drift" and thus the sound gets cut off
until you re-tune the device. Save yer $$.

The "expensive" type is really designed to integrate
a CD changer into a car. Thus if you can find one -
its cost is closer to $150. It has remote controls
to control a CD changer (you dont use those) *and*
it has two antenna wires attached to it. There is
a male and a femal antenna wire attached.
This gets pluged "in line" with the existing OEM
antenna. There is usually a switch to select the station
you want to "block out". Its usually one of the
left end stations - those cool "college" frequencies.

Ive never used one, but I presume that since Sony et
al makes them for the $$$ CD changers - it probably
works far better than the "broadcast" version.

What type of car is it?

Some OEM head units have RCA inputs. YOu could plug
into those with a RCA to mini plug.
YOu may have to "fool" the head unit into thinking
that a head unit is attached tho.

Some OEM radios have a DIN plug (Dads Volvo S70)
and you get an adapter made by "BLITZ" to connect
a CD changer. This may also work to "fool" a
head unit into accepting a line in as the CD input.

Or - Get the MD changer and use that.
Im beginning to think that isnt such a bad idea
these days - except for the $$.
