Hi. I keep warning people to make sure that they get a step-down transformer
if they purchase a Japanese domestic unit. My experience with Sharp units is
that if you forget to use the step-down transformer, you will get an error
message that says something like "power?".

Any dealer selling Japanese domestic units that does not include a step-down
transformer is, in my opinion, being unfair to the customer. I have been told
that the AVERAGE voltage in the US is 117 volts.

That means that in some places your unit may work fine with out the
transformer, but in the majority you will be giving the unit too much voltage.
The Sharp units must have a protective circuit in them to prevent overload.

I'm also sure that in any 24 hour period line voltage will vary by 10 volts or
more. One spike or surge and any electronic unit not designed to compensate
will be damaged.

Regards,
Larry
