Once the battery contacts are no longer in their original state, they may or
may not maintain shape properly, no matter how you bend them.

My experience (with a couple cassette walkmans that use gumpacks) is that
you can always try to do a temporary fix, but to be completely trouble free,
you may have to seek the original company's service.

I've tried stuffing paper beneath the contacts (not the lid, the one inside
the unit), but how much paper to use seemd to be a delicate balancing act.
Too much paper gets it too tight; too little paper doesn't do the job.

My Kenwood K5 was only dropped a very long time ago, but starting last month
it sometimes turned off by itself, just from being shaken in my pocket while
I walked. I still have no good solution for that. Temporary solution has
been holding it in my hands.
