Can't really comment, but I suspect it's probably getting the technology at 
a reasonable price - these kiosks (which I haven't heard about) will 
probably cover their own development/production costs - are they for 
downloading music onto MD or something?

At the end of the day, Zip and CD-R/RW are basically THE formats which 
everyone uses for large(ish) capacity removeable media (like bigger than a 
floppy), apart from stuff like DAT/DLT, etc. I can't really see MD taking 
off as a removeable storage format. What they need to do is produce an MD 
deck or portable with a USB interface on it or something, which is purely 
designed for audio, because all people are really using MD for in a big way 
is audio.
