Heres' what i did when i recorded the +LIVE+ concert.
I've got a old button up collared shirt that i bought from an OP-Shop for $2 which i
use to conceal the mics. There's a hole in the inside back of the collar and velcro
sewed on the underside of the collar on either side. Also velcro on each microphone to
stick onto the shirt.
Each microphone also has a short length of wire wrapped around the cable, so they can
be bent at an angle (to point at the speakers).
I wrap my homemade mics/battery box around each ankle before i leave for the show,
keeping them as low as possible, then put bulky socks over the top. It can be a bit
uncomfortable to walk but you'll get that.
Empty your wallet of everything you don't need. I've got a MZ-R91 recorder which sits
nicely inside my wallet... make sure you can't see anything sticking out. Might have
to buy an old big wallet to do the job.
If you can, get a friend who's going with you to do the same, except store your MD
blanks in his/her wallet.
So you get to the show and line up. Security runs the metal detector up your legs,
over your body etc and the detector beeps. You take out your wallet and they try again
and you're clean. I've never had them run the "wand" close enough to my feet to pick
up the mics/battery box.
So now your in. Go to the toilets, "unpack" your equipment in a cubicle. The
microphones are velcroed to the underside of your collars so they slightly protrude
out the front (i've used permanent marker to make them black). The cables run around
the inside of the collar (between the two pieces of material) and the cable enters a
hole in the back, so as to pass through to the inside the shirt and run down your
back. Then run the cable around through the belt loops and down into the pocket. It's
a good idea to make sure that the shirt is long enough to go past the pocket so people
dont see the cable.
That's pretty well how i do it. I hope it made sence. I've been meaning to put a guide
up on my website with pictures and stuff but i havent gotten around to it yet.
Something to do on the weekend......

Subject: MD: microphones concealing tips
I ask this question to people that record concerts with MD recorder and
microphones. How do u dress? Where do u conceal the recorder, where do u
conceal mics (when u know that they often have 5-6 feet long cables) and
battery box in order to avoid body checks by the security service?
