Don't know about your particular amp, but on most devices the bass boost
function only increases "bass" (lower) frequencies, while a "loudness"
button actually increases both the low-end and top-end (high)
frequencies. At low volumes, the human ear can hear midrange frequencies
much better, so when you're playing audio at low volumes, the loudness
button compensates for the low and high ranges.
