If I understand what you plan to do, why do you need a computer at all.  You
need a CD player with a digital optical output.

What you are doing isn't digital audio extraction if you are using the digital
output of your sound card.  You are just making a digital copy of the CD on to
MD.

BTW, I don't know exactly where it is , but if your CD ROM drive has the right
connectors, you can tap into it and get a digital optical output even if your
sound card does not.

Check the community page.  I think Sean Lynn had it.  He suggested a red LCD,
but you really should use a TOSlink transmitter.  Basically it is an LED with
the correct shape on its plastic body to plug a TOSlink cable into.

I bought 2 from someone on the list (Sweets???).  If your CD ROM drive has the
proper pins on it, you can carefully cut a hole in one of the unused covers for
a drive bay.  Best to use a heated knife or you might be able to find the right
shape tip to fit on a soldering iron.
