If you can't get some kind of hardware assist for your computer to
play DVD movies, you're not going to get anything near smooth playback
with a 233 Mhz machine.

Make sure that wherever you buy parts, they can be returned if
you're not happy with the results.

Video editing requires huge amounts of horsepower (CPU/RAM/HD) to
really work well, and I'm not thrilled with my Athlon 700 or a PII 550
(both with 128M ram) for video editing.

Laptop hard drives are much slower, so you'll feel the burn there
as well.

It'll work as a CD/MP3 player. If you wanted a more all purpose
tool, I'd get a SONY VAIO instead (a co-worker has one with a 750 Mhz PIII
processor, 256M ram, DVD Drive, CD-RW drive, S-Video output, TOSLink
output, etc. It's amazing for a laptop. But then, the price is huge
too.[1])

[1] To the point where he will not admit it. It's above $3500. That's
all I know.
