Hey, folks! I've just joined the Minidisc cult; got a Sony MZ-R70 last
night, made a few recordings via the nifty optical cable from my mini
stereo system, and I'm liking them quite a lot, except for just a few
"sparkling" artifacts I get with smooth volume changes in techno
songs. Not totally awful, but I'm surprised; the FAQ asserted
vigorously that the "sparkles" were gone these days, which was what
stopped me from going Minidisc years and years ago.
The remote that came with the R70 is okay, feel-wise, but I really
wish it was a backlit LCD remote instead. Looking on Ebay, I see a lot
of RM-MZR55 remotes for sale at ~ $15, and they say they're backlit
and compatible with the R70.
But the manual for the R70 warns against using other models' remotes,
saying the record capabilities may not work, and minidisc.org's page
on the R55 says:
"The MZ-R55's remote can be used with the MZ-R50, but in this case
the backlight is inoperative (only the MZ-R55 emits the command
codes needed to control the backlight). The MZ-R55 remote is
completely interchangeable with the MZ-R37 remote."
The remote that came with the R70 is model RM-MZ3R. If I order a
RM-MZR55 remote, will it work with my R70?
Thanks a lot!
Ben
