You need to know what the current draw of the MD recorder is.  The
adapter needs to be the same voltage recommended and have a current
ratting that is higher than the recorder draws.  If you look at the info
you got with the Sharp, it should be listed in the specs.   I would
guess it would be somewhere between 500 ma and 1000 ma. as long as the
adapter has a higher rating  than the unit need, the voltage is the same
as it needs and the plug is the same and connected with the proper
polarity it should work.  If you get something that has interchangeable
plugs on the end, be very careful or they may come apart and get put
back together backwards.  I had an acquaintance that did just that when
pocket calculators came out.  Needless to say, it was toast afterwards.
