I guess if we all list our Sony equipment this could get tedious but
(anyway!) all the Sony MD equipment I've bought (JE 520, MZ E25, and MDX
C6500) is still working without a hint of a problem (touch wood!).

The E25 in particular has had a rough life (I expect a lot from my portables
and they come with me everywhere) and has had an hour + use a day for two
years and is fine. I sometimes suspect that I got into MD just after most
of the teething troubles had been sorted out, but then my friend has a MZ
R30 which likewise gets a beating and it's still groovin'.

I note David Popovits' advice on MDCP to get a portable player rather than
recorder if possible - maybe recording portables generally are more
susceptible to problems. Certainly one gets the impression that the Sony
R55 and R90 were rushed into the marketplace a little too quickly.

Add to my list a LOT of Sony walkmans which only gave up after 3-4 years
each after being beaten to death (ok, I'm not that rough but they gave a lot
of service and did take the odd knock in addition to continual wear and
tear). Portables operate in the most inhospitable of environments - I
wouldn't expect mine to last forever. My experience (tape walkmans here) is
that Sony last longer and are more reliable. Certainly my MZ E25 is
continuing that tradition.
