I only have the plain cassette version, not CD (which I bought at Sam's
Club). I never use the cassette, so if you problem is mechanical, I can
not offer an opinion.
However, as far as the preamp/amp section go, I have had my unit for
years and have never had a problem.
I do find that car stereo units in general are not reliable with regard
to the mechanical end. My son had a JVC and my daughter a Toshiba, both
of which were constantly in the shop.
