I feel a little lost here - as I'm not sure whether the above comment
relates to Lens or Head cleaners. Sony definitely *DO* make an MD LENS
cleaner.

I've got a copy of Sony Pulse Magazine - a consumer catalogue of Sony
Products. On the page with all the recording media including blank MDs and
tapes, it has a "Mini Disc Lens Cleaner", model number seems to be MD-64CL
or something (it's pretty small). There are NO Sony HEAD cleaners listed.

The Lens cleaner looks like a bright green MD with blue writing on it, sold
in a bubble pack. I've never seen one in the flesh, but then I've never
gone looking (at lunchtime I'll see if the Sony supplier here has one and if
so I'll report to MD-L).

I've heard negative things on the net over time about people using lens/head
cleaners for routine maintenance, but by contrast occasionally you hear of
someone who used a cleaner when things didn't work and it resuscitated dead
gear. I can't imagine how a Lens Cleaner could improve the sound quality of
a working MD item, I suspect it can only fix it if it's broken.

I've always though that if Sony make them, they must be o.k. to use, but in
nearly 2 years of constant use, my (Sony) MD equipment hasn't had any
problems (touch wood..) so I've never needed to resort to a cleaner, and I
would NOT use them for regular maintenance as you do with a tape cleaner
(since there isn't any physical contact between the Lens and the disc), but
I would if there was a problem (you've usually got nothing to lose in that
situation!)
