You are right in that it is not a data drive, but it isn't a USB-Audio
device only either. You can control the whole machine from the PC. The
link kit is called M-Crew (or is it the software?), the Sony code for
this is PCLK-MN10, if you search on the web you can find the manual,
if not I can send you a copy of it. It seems to work with the MDS-PC3,
MDS-S50 and DHC-MD595. I don't know about the MDS-S50, but the
DHC-MD595 seems to also have a tuner and a CD drive with speed copying
from the CD to MD (I think it is 4X).
Anyway, in any of the decks you can control all of the functions from
the PC, from what looks like a nice well-designed software, with
the option to maintain your list of music (on MDs, CDs, MP3s on the
HD, ...)
I really like it although I do not have used one yet. I wish there was
a PC-Link like this for portable MiniDiscs.
And by the way, any of these decks support LP modes.
