Right then. This isn't a question, I just want to have a rant and
recount the spectacularly bad customer services I've received from
Sharp. I contacted them several months ago to tell them the battery
on my 831 was faulty (it only lasts 7 hours) and to ask for a new one
(since it was well within its guarantee period. They said that best
they could do was offer me one for 1/2 price (28 UK pounds). I said
this wasn't good enough. They said take it up in writing. I did. My
solicitor sent them a letter. They lost it. My solicitor faxed
another letter. They sent a reply to say that although the unit was
within the guarantee period, the battery was exempt and I would stil
have to *pay* for a new one - although I could still have it at 1/2
price (generous eh?).
Reluctantly I sent them a cheque and a week later they sent me *a*
battery. Unfortunately it was not one for the 831. I rang them up and
having been passed around several departments, each of which blamed
the other, they finally agreed that it was indeed the wrong one, and
that I could return it and recieve the correct replacement.
(The saga continues...) Yesterday morning they called me to let me
know that they battery they had sent me in the first place was in
fact the correct model. I informed them this ths patently wasn't
true, and after patiently explaining a little about different lithium
ion battery models to the customer rep - he finally agreed that I was
right. He eventualy agreed to dispatch another new battery to me, but
I'm hardly holding my breath.
It really gets me how they can get away with such a shambolic
customer service. To charge me 200 quid for a brand new unit, which
never worked properly, then to make me pay for a new battery - even
within the guarantee period, then send me the wrong one and finally
to try and convince me it was actually the correct unit is an
absolute disgrace. Sadly, I doubt Anne Robinson has much interest in
lithium ion battery technology.
        Anyone else had similar experiences?
        Robin.
