They were notably referring to decks such as Marantz's MD-2020 and Kenwood's
DMF-9020, but I guess it also applies to Sony's MDSJA 555 ES (or 50 ES).

Les is quite right as far as my experience with Sony's MZ-R 70 is concerned
("Possible problems can include expecting too much from a portable!  Never
expect a portable to match a good home deck as you would not expect a
portable cassette to match a high end home deck either.").
