I use Xitel's DG-1 (OEM to Sony's digital PCLink). It's a bit pricey (bought
mine used for $85 from MiniDisco), but it's an elegant solution for me,
especially since my primary computer is my laptop.
If you're not familiar with this device, it's a USB-to-optical bridge. There
are no drivers and it's a snap to install. To use, simply go to your Sound
control panel applet and change the primary output from your sound card to
the 'USB Audio Device'. Use your favorite audio player (I use WinAmp) and
play. I use it with my MZ-R900 and it works like a champ including sync
recording. I've also used Xitel's AN-1 (same device, but analog; OEM to
Sony's PCLink) which is compatible with more portable recorders, but I
thought I heard more background noise with it.
Good luck!
