At last!  I must admit the below diagrams are exactly how I interpreted
the problem from the start, and then kept reading countless posts which
seemed to be implying/answering a different problem.  Sometimes "error-
correction" can lead to problems :-)

As you say David, the headphones probably are unnecessary for mobile use,
while on the move you rarely need the top of the range lower sensitivity
phones do you?!
