This is what I was trying to get at. I guess I'm not to great at explaining
myself. What I was trying to say is that when you convert with a DAC, you
are turning the digital code (not sound, just code) into something else
entire, where as with resampling you are just turning one digital string of
code into another string of code; simple mathmatics.
Sure there is a sound change with resampling, but it's very minor, and since
resampling is done digitally you could actually do it with pen, paper and a
slide rule...although it would take a lifetime to do one song that way :)
With DACs though, well that's another story, which is why high end audio
geeks spend thousands on outboard DACs for their CD players. How a DAC works
is open to interpritation somewhat, where as with resampling, it can only be
done one way.

"Let me explain a couple of things. Time is short. That's the
first thing. For the weasel, Time is a weasel. For the hero,
Time is heroic. For the whore, Time is just another trick.
If you're gentle, your Time is gentle. If you're in a hurry,
Time flies. Time is a servant, if you are its master. Time
is your god, if you are its dog. We are the creators of Time,
the victims of Time, and the killers of Time. Time is timeless.
That's the second thing. You are the clock, Cassiel."
